Trade and Climate Change

Climate change poses particular challenges to international trade regulation. These challenges are being addressed jointly by Work Package 5 and NCCR Climate, with a view to promoting the interdisciplinary approaches and solutions needed. WP5 will address climate change adaptation (topic I); climate change mitigation (topic II); and industrial structures and competition (topic III). The CITEL (Climate Change and International Trade from an Economic and Legal Perspective) Component of NCCR Climate (topic IV) mainly focuses on mitigation such as border tax adjustment measures and shares leadership and researchers with WP5 ensuring coherence. Problems are addressed from the angles of economics and law, in particular regulations in WTO law. WP5 seeks to determine to what extent current WTO rules are favourable to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
