Currently working on Jordan water issues, Valerie Yorke has built a career as a policy analyst, specialising in regional political and security issues in the Middle East - especially relations between Western powers and the region, the peace process and the politics of Jordan and Palestine.  Valerie was previously a senior research fellow at the London School of Economics (1996-2005) where she coordinated a programme of policy support for the Palestinians. From 1994 to 1996, she was the European coordinator of the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Peace Media programme, prior to which she was senior Middle East editor with the organisation. She was earlier attached to several of London’s leading think tanks, including the International Institute for Strategic Studies and Chatham House. She holds an MA (Hons) in Politics (Edin) and has travelled widely in the Middle East where she has many colleagues with whom she has collaborated on past projects.   

Valerie’s extensive publications include: The European Union and the Israeli-Palestinian peace process (1999); Domestic Politics and Regional Security: Syria, Jordan and Israel (IISS:Gower 1988); 'The Middle East's Slow March Towards Peace', The World Today, Vol 50 No 5, May 1994; 'Imagining a Palestinian State: an International Security Plan', International Affairs, Vol 66 No 1 January 1990; 'A New Era for Jordan', The World Today, Vol 46 No 2, February 1990.

She is a Board Member of the Welfare Association UK and the Anglo-Jordanian Society.
