Michelangelo Temmerman, native of Belgium, joined NCCR Trade Regulation at its very beginning. Before this, he completed studies at the universities of Ghent and Bern, where he graduated in law at a very young age and specialised in international and human rights law. Within the NCCR first phase’s individual project 9 on biotechnology, he completed his PhD thesis entitled ‘Intellectual Property and Biodiversity – Rights to Animal Genetic Resources’ and was also involved the work of the International Law Association (ILA) Committee on Biotechnology Law. For the second phase of NCCR Trade Regulation, he moved on from his projects on the legal notion of ‘abuse of patent rights’, to be a cluster leader within Work Package 3 and combines this activity with lecturing at the University of Bern.
