Manuel Oechslin is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the WTI and the Department of Economics, University of Bern. He studied in Zurich and Berlin and earned a PhD in Economics (Dr. oec. publ.) from the University of Zurich in 2006. Before joining the WTI in 2010, Manuel held a Visiting Scholar position at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), United States, and a position as an Assistant Professor at Tilburg University, the Netherlands. Relying on theoretical as well as empirical methods, his research focuses on international trade and economic development, with a strong emphasis on issues related to income and wealth inequality. Manuel has been awarded some prestigious prizes for young economists and his work has been published in the leading journals of the profession, among them the Journal of International Economics, the Journal of Public Economics, and the Economic Journal. Manuel has a rich teaching experience in areas like economic development, international trade, and long-run economic growth. In the WTI’s MILE programme, he will be responsible for the macroeconomics course.
