Matteotti René

René Matteotti has been a full professor of Swiss, European and International Tax Law and a director of the Tax Law Institute of the University of Bern since 2007. He also heads the University of Bern Department of Business and Economic Law. He advises and renders tax opinions in all areas of Swiss and international tax law. Previously, he worked as a tax lawyer for several years in one of the leading  business law firm in Zurich. Prof. Matteotti obtained a Master of Laws in Taxation from Northwestern University School of Law, Chicago IL, in 2004 and his PhD from the University of Bern in 2003.Beside his academic activity, Prof. Matteotti has been appointed by the federal government and the federal treasury department as a member of various governmental tax policy commissions. He has acted as a permanent member of the VAT Consultancy Board since 2007. In 2009, he chaired the Corporate Tax Reform III Commission. Since 2010, he has been a member of the Strategy Board of the Corporate Tax Reform III. In addition, Prof. Matteotti has been an Editor in Chief of the leading scientific Tax Journal ASA since 2006. He speaks regularly at tax seminars and conferences and has published books and numerous articles on Swiss and international tax law. He is the main responsible co-editor and co-author of a treatise on International Tax Law.
