Javier Lopez Gonzalez is an International trade economist with extensive experience in the analysis of Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs). He has undertaken regular consultancy work for the European Commission (DG TRADE), the Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) department of the UK Government; the International Labour Organization (ILO); United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the World Bank, and the UK Department for International Development (DfID). His research has focused, inter alia, on the effects of RTAs on prospective members, the impact of RTAs on third countries, the impact of the EU single market, and the effects of unilateral trade preferences. He is currently working on his DPhil thesis looking at the causal relationship between vertical specialisation and RTAs in an endogenous trade policy context.
