Katja Gehne studied law and politics in Mannheim, Marburg and Berlin with a focus on international and European law and legal theory. She spent a year at the University Sophia Antipolis Nizza doing an LLM in international development and economic law. As an intern at the European Commission (Secretariat General) she dealt with the European sustainable development strategy. While doing her PhD on sustainable development as a principle of law – normative content, theoretical classification and legal functions she worked for the law firm WilmerHale Berlin in the field of international, European and administrative law. Having passed her second state examination in law in Germany, she spent a year in Madagascar to do a GTZ project on a legal framework for administrative law. To finish her PhD - which she did in November 2008 - she joined the NCCR project in July 2008, now working as Co-Leader for the NCCR trade regulation research package on corporate trade governance. Katja Gehne is focusing on the concept of sustainable development with regard to international trade and investment law, including issues of corporate governance and corporate social responsibility. She is also following up on issues related to legal theory and international constitutionalism which formed part of her PhD.
