Joëlle de Sépibus is a Senior Research Fellow of the World Trade Institute and a Visiting Professor of Law at the College of Europe (Bruges). She teaches European and international law on climate change at the University of Bern (Oeschger Centre) and at the College of Europe. Her current research interests focus on climate and energy policy, in particular the post-2012 regime on climate change, the carbon market and questions related to the introduction of a smart grid in the electricity market.  


She was formerly an Associate Professor of international and European law at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland). In 2010 she worked as an expert for the EU Presidency in the run-up to the international climate negotiations in Cancun. She holds a Master in European Law (College of Europe, Bruges) and a PhD in European Law (University of Bern). Admitted to the bar, she practiced Swiss and international Business Law in law firms in Bern, Geneva and Zurich. After completing her doctoral thesis she was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (European University Institute, Florence).
