Rupa Chanda is a Professor of Economics at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB). She has a PhD in economics with specialization in international trade from Columbia University and a BA in economics from Harvard University.

At IIMB, Dr Chanda teaches macroeconomics and international trade. She has received several teaching awards. She undertakes research assignments for multilateral and Indian organizations. Prior to joining IIMB, she was an economist at the IMF in Washington, DC.

Dr Chanda’s research interests concern multilateral and regional trade liberalization in services, migration, and trade in health and IT services. She is a member of the Academic Working Group on India–EU Labour Mobility Partnership and is on the Advisory Board to India’s Services Export Promotion Council. Earlier she served as a member of several Government of India committees on services.

Dr Chanda is the author of several books including, Integrating Services in South Asia: Trade, Investment, Mobility (Oxford University Press 2011), Globalization of Services: India’s Opportunities and Constraints (Oxford University Press 2002), and India’s Trade in Services: Prospects and Strategies (ed., Wiley India 2006). She has also written many journal articles, book chapters, and academic reports on her areas of research interest and has presented at various national and international fora.
