Susan Brown-Shafii joined the WTI in October 2005 as Scientific Coordinator for the NCCR project.  From 2002 to 2005, she worked for a consultancy firm in Geneva run by a former International Labour Organization (ILO) Deputy Director General. Prior to that, she spent several years with the Geneva-based international organizations, completing projects for the ILO (2000–02), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (1998–99), the Secretariat for Inter-Governmental Consultations on Refugee, Asylum and Migration Policies (1994), and the GATT Secretariat (1993–94). During this period, she also completed a PhD in International Relations (IPE) at the London School of Economics.  She started her career in the private sector, working in the financial sector, and as a customs and trade consultant in New Zealand.  Her academic credentials also include an MBA from Erasmus University in the Netherlands and a BA in Labor Relations and Economics from the University of Michigan.  She is currently completing a book, WTO regulation of the regulators; prospects for promoting good governance, development and accountability under the GPA, to be published with Palgrave Macmillan in 2010.
