Klaus Armingeon is Professor of Political Science at the University of Berne and Director of the Institute of Political Science (IPW). He was formerly Assistant Professor at the Institute of Political Science, University of Heidelberg and has taught at various universities in Germany, Austria and the USA.

Born in Stuttgart in 1954, Klaus Armingeon studied Political Science, East European and Contemporary History at the University of Tübingen, and did his PhD on statutory and voluntary (neo-corporatist) incomes policies in Western Europe at the University of Konstanz. His particular research activities are in the field of comparative politics, industrial relations and welfare state policies. Klaus Armingeon is a member of diverse politico-scientific associations and academic societies.
