International Investment Law and EU Law
Abstract
The entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty entails sweeping changes with respect to foreign investment regulation. Most prominently, Article 207 TFEU now contains the explicit competence for regulating foreign direct investments as part of the Common Commercial Policy chapter. With this competence, the EU becomes an important actor in the field of international investment law and politics. This new empowerment of the EU prompts a multitude of new questions; some of these questions, such as dispute settlement and EU law, will be discussed in the brown bag seminar.
